Description

Boys Will Be Boys is Sara Suleri Goodyear’s second memoir, this one paying tribute to her father, the Pakistani political journalist Z. A. Suleri. As an elegy for a man of force, contradiction and humor, the design needed a little twist—nothing to overshadow the author’s voice, but rather to enhance it. We hope this is achieved, however subtly, through slightly unconventional margins, the selection and combination of typefaces, and the choice of binding materials. The overarching goal was to create an intimate setting in which the stories could come alive. Of note is the use of epigraphs—both in the author’s native language of Urdu and English—instead of chapter titles. The Urdu calligraphy was the pivot around which all visual decisions were made.

Juror Notes

“The combination of simple design, decorative fonts, and a connection between the jacket design and the text makes this a subtly engaging package. The jacket colors in connection to the cases add to its beauty.” Isabel Warren-Lynch
