The House of Bernard Alba is one of a series of seven posters announcing the 2000–2001 series of the Madison Repertory Theatre. Each poster needed to feature the same stylistic treatment and also accurately represent the varied themes and tones of each play. The audience was the general live theater crowd in the Madison area. Spur was to design each of the title treatments and illustrate each play. The solution for shows the title character of the play sitting ramrod straight on a chair that also symbolizes a cage. The final poster needed to work in black and white as well as color and be reproducible at a small scale.
