Design This Day: 8 Decades of Influential Design is a limited-edition book commemorating Teague’s 80th anniversary. With a nod to Walter Dorwin Teague’s book of the same title, Teague wanted to create a volume that would not only showcase their work but also communicate their observations on the industrial-design field in general—their relationships, their perspective on the industry, other work they admire, their design heroes, and their insights on where things are headed. The book showcases Teague’s industrial-design projects, thumbnail sketches and original illustrations. It also includes a foreword by celebrity designer Ross Lovegrove and 20-plus pages devoted to designers and designs that have inspired Teague from the 1920s to the present.
The book’s design solution infuses each section with subtle typographic variations. Sections that focus on ideas more than images provided opportunities to create contrast in typographic scale and execution. Different paper stocks from section to section lend a tactile quality to the experience. Additionally, humor worked its way into the book in several sections, helping to lighten the mood of what could have been yet another overly serious design tome.
“A celebration of eight decades of great product design from Walter Teague.”
