ExxonMobil Masterpiece Theatre Online
WGBH Interactive, Boston, Massachusetts, 2000
Description
This companion website to “ExxonMobil Masterpiece Theatre,” the long-running PBS series, was completely redesigned and relaunched in September 2000. The goals of the redesign were to expand the educational and informational reach of the series; stylistically reinterpret the brand; attract a new online audience to the series and website; honor and celebrate the 30th anniversary season of the series; and introduce a new collection of films. The design had to be flexible and modular to represent the various styles of the season’s productions while maintaining a cohesive overall feel for the series. Using classic typographical elements and imagery in a clean modern way makes reference to the history of the series while conveying the content in a web-friendly way. The site was designed in accordance with WGBH Interactive standards, which aim to reach the broadest audience possible, including blind and visually impaired users accessing the content via screenreader technology.
