Naked Pictures of Famous People
Richard Aquan, 1998
Description
Abe Lincoln is perhaps one of the last public figures one would expect or want to see naked (except for a good friend of mine.) His likeness is undeniable (bad facial hair goes a long way). It is a joke to think that placing the incriminating “bar” over his eyes could possibly conceal his identity.
I was given a large pile of expensive and disappointing photographs and asked to come up with something tasteful, witty, and both historical and current. The solution is a bit of a shock (if only mildly so) and timely. It acts as a social commentary on the exercise of the public exposé—is nothing sacred?—while also making you chuckle (I think).
