KPF website

Firstborn, New York, New York, 2005

Description

Kohn Pedersen Fox, one of the world’s leaders in architecture and planning, asked Firstborn to design and develop a website that illustrates in a visual way their unique approach to contemporary architecture. By combining Firstborn’s design aesthetics and passion for exemplary design solutions with KPF’s wealth of gorgeous project-related imagery, the website showcases hundreds of projects in an engaging and tactile way. The means to explore the site and imagery are unique in their own right, making this website a thoroughly rewarding and educating online experience. The idea for this explorative interface stems from KPF’s work itself—the site’s navigation structure resembles floors with stairwells between them. In addition, each page of the site acts like a mini–case study, allowing the user to get familiar with KPF’s work while reading any piece of information. By adding a few minimalist interface elements, we conveyed the feeling of precision and modernity of KPF’s architecture.

Juror Notes

Half the submissions were portfolio sites.
It executes really well, and the navigation is very fluid. Work in the forefront, great photography.
The relationship between navigation, photographs and content was really well done, fluid and coherent.
