Blackletter: Type and National Identity

Peter Bain Design, Paul Shaw/Letter Design, Brooklyn, New York, 1999

Description

We had to recreate the experience of the accompanying exhibition in printed form. Each case in the exhibition was devoted to a single theme. Each theme either became a single page or a double-page spread. The look and feel (including the large lowercase “n’s”) of the installation, the entire text and over half the images were all transferred to the catalogue. The large “n” is a visual key to the different themes, highlighting stylistic differences and allowing the reader to navigate the catalogue by typographic form.
