Florian Slotawa: One After the Other

Viewers Like You, Austin, Texas, 2007

Description

Arthouse at the Jones Center in Austin, Texas, commissioned a catalog for a site-specific installation by Berlin-based conceptual artist Florian Slotawa entitled One After the Other. The exhibition was intended to cause viewers to radically reengage the gallery’s interior spaces and question the boundaries between interior (private) and exterior (public) space through the artist’s utilization of everyday items and existing objects.

The designers reinforced the conceptual underpinnings of the artist’s installation by reusing print elements designed to promote the show. An accordion-fold binding printed on both sides was chosen to mimic the installation—a continuous space folded onto itself—enabling the reader to navigate the interior space of the piece as the viewer was asked to navigate the gallery space. Remaindered press sheets of the invitation postcard were repurposed for the cover of the catalog.
