Terra Incognita

Chronicle Books, San Francisco, California, 2007

Description

Terra Incognita captures the landscape and ecology of the American Gulf Coast. This collection of images focuses on the intersection of human culture and natural phenomena. The design is quiet, clean and respectful with touches of subtle sophistication (e.g. use of spot gloss on cover) to complement the beauty and texture of Richard Sexton’s photography. The endpapers were embossed to reveal the tactile quality of the found objects and to add to the package’s object quality. The target audience is artists, designers, photographers and environmentalists.

Juror Notes

Understated, refined, graceful—the design allows the beauty of the images to speak individually and collectively.
