Mingei Japanese Folk Art

Mingei Japanese Folk Art

Don Komai, Lynne Komai, 1996

Description

The Mingei catalogue will accompany the traveling exhibition of Japanese folk art to museums throughout the United States. The catalogue was designed to celebrate the diverse pieces in this collection and to enhance the simplicity inherent in this type of work, as Mingei means “humble” and “commonplace” in Japanese. The primary design challenge was to create a very disciplined structure to accommodate the textiles, pottery, sculpture, and wooden and lacquered objects.
