Nonstøck.2 CD-ROM Catalogue

Belk Mignona Associates, New York, New York, 1998

Description

Nonstøck is a New York–based stock image company specializing in high-end photography and illustration, with twenty-seven international affiliates around the globe. BMA was asked to create Nonstøck’s first interactive catalogue, Nonstøck.2, which has since been distributed in eighteen countries. The challenge was to redefine the marketplace by providing a level of design and technical sophistication unmatched by any of Nonstøck’s competitors. The audiences are primarily designers, art directors, and art buyers with a low tolerance for junk mail, but a high sensitivity to design and its usefulness. Belk Mignona’s approach was simple: to create a useful search tool that is easy to use, but entertaining and thought provoking at the same time. The result is a CD-ROM that works not unlike an application or a virtual desktop, where the experience of the search takes into consideration the way creative people think and play. It was our intention to strike a perfect balance between useful tool and playful toy.
