Chairs: A History

Chairs: A History

Binocular, New York, New York, 2006

Description

A history of chairs from ancient times to modern day, this book contains illustrations of hundreds of chairs. Rather than try to present a range of historically and aesthetically representative chairs, our approach was to create a bold, simple cover that would capture the essential qualities of a chair. Playing off the straightforward title, we chose a chair with a historically iconic shape and silhouetted it against white. On the back, a chair of similarly evocative modern form completes the picture and suggests the story told in the pages between the covers.

Juror Notes

“The use of one chair and simple typography creates a strong statement.”
