“Japan Package” article

Wired magazine, San Francisco, California, 2001

Description

The Japan package consists of 4 stories—a total of 22 pages. The stories vary greatly from each other but the overarching idea is that Japan still represents the future.

We hired avant-garde Japanese photographers and illustrators to document the innovation we were describing. We researched hundreds of different books, magazines, films and advertisements to fully capture the essence of Japan’s visual language.

Juror Notes

“It’s just crazy and very Japanese in its colors and detailing of icons and logos. It’s ugly, but knowingly ugly. Tokyo intensity.”

“It’s design that really looks like what it’s about.”
