Tilly & the Wall

Tilly & the Wall

Sidekick, Omaha, Nebraska, 2005

Description

For this promotional poster for One Percent Productions, we played off Tilly’s album title Wild Like Children. They’re known for their youthful boy–girl harmonies and their tap-dancing percussionist. They have a list of other elements in their music that includes tambourines, recorders, shakers, bells and keyboard, all of which bring a youthful enthusiasm to their music. Keeping that in mind, we decided to go with a bright palette of colors that directs your eye to the focal point of the poster. The curve of the rainbow-shaped color fields and the directional line moving downward echo the movement of a bouncing ball. To pull the colors together, we used black, which visually contrasts the circle to bring emphasis to the band’s name. With this poster, we tried to give viewers a well-constructed play land for their eyes to wander around in.
