Description

In 8, the author jumps from subject to subject in short, seemingly random paragraphs, which are sometimes simple anecdotes of her life. The book reads like a journal, and we are given insight into her complex mind as she reflects on her childhood (experiences with the man she calls “my pedophile”) and present life (including visits to a hands-on healer and raising her two sons). The idea of learning through repetition and the automatic motions of humans are metaphorically represented by the figure-skating practice of making a figure eight on ice. I wanted to represent graphically the elliptical way in which the author tries to come to terms with ideas of innocence, time and the healing power of touch, while delivering an intimate journal-like feeling that encompasses the warmth and darkness of her experiences.

Juror Notes

“An interesting, loose approach to typography and design.”
