Charles Olson, the poet died shortly after giving a series of lectures at the University of Connecticut. The editors of this volume, who attended the series, attempted to reproduce the lectures from their very copious notes and from those of others. The resulting manuscript was then put into the shape that Olson usually gave to his poems. Budgetary considerations were minimal; the limited audience would pay, within reason, whatever price we would have to charge to make a reasonable profit.
