An Inconvenient Truth

MGMT. design, Brooklyn, New York, 2006

Description

MGMT. design worked with book packager Melcher Media and publisher Rodale to create the book that accompanied the documentary film An Inconvenient Truth. The publication utilized material from Al Gore’s lecture as well as commissioned illustrations and additional photographic imagery. The timeframe was extremely compressed to coincide with the movie-release date: 12 weeks elapsed from first design presentations to publication.

The main design challenge was to adapt the experience, pacing and drama of Gore’s live presentation as well as the experience of the film into a narrative book format. Additionally, it was imperative that Gore’s voice be retained throughout while maintaining the integrity and urgency of the content. MGMT. also redrew the information graphics from the original presentation not only to provide more visual clarity but also to make the information more legible and effective without the benefit of animation.

Juror Notes

“Though covered in other media, the information is well presented here with dramatic photos and easy-to-understand charts and graphics.”
