The Sonnets to Orpheus

The Sonnets to Orpheus

Kurt Roesch, S.A. Jacobs, 1944

Description

Juror Notes

The function of this book may have been less to print the Rilke poetry than to put the Roesch etchings into a proper bookish setting; yet the result is more than a picture book, for the poetry receives its own due in a careful handling of types. The volume is on the grand scale, simple and, and impressive. The hand-binding, paper on boards, is in the tradition of the temporary case.

Peter Beilenson, Paul McPharlin, Ernst Reichl (Jurors)
