Totally Killer
HarperCollins, New York, New York, 2009
Description
The novel takes place in New York City (hydrant) during the ’90s (giant cell phone) where a workplace (office chair) is a front for something much more killer (gun). Music (tape) plays an important roll throughout. “That’s all you need!” is how I sold it in the cover meeting, however the original design had only the graphic elements. The story is a mystery, so the silhouettes were the pieces to the puzzle to intrigue you and say to yourself, what do these all have in common? But then I was asked to put the title and author’s name on it. At least they didn’t totally kill the cover.
Juror Notes
Beautiful arrangement of objects and type. I loved how a preponderance of white space remains despite the number of objects portrayed. Lovely use of two colors.
