Topaz typeface

Topaz typeface

Hoefler & Frere-Jones, New York, New York, 2004

Description

Inlines are black typefaces with white highlights, and outlines are white typefaces with black borders. The typographic scholar R. S. Hutchings noted that “it is often difficult, if not actually impossible, to distinguish between them.” Topaz is our attempt to further blur the distinction: its sinuous curves and careful asymmetries, together with its off-center highlights, yield a typeface that is simultaneously an inline, an outline, and a dimensional letter.
