Takashimaya Volume No. 5

Takashimaya Volume No. 5

Design: M/W, New York, New York, 1997

Description

That Takashimaya is a breed apart from the traditional retail store is immediately conveyed by the unconventional “envelope” that houses their gift catalogue. The use of various shades of red throughout the piece and the photographic sets serves to unite a disparate range of merchandise. The piece reflects the store in several other ways: the commingling of Eastern and Western aesthetics, the subtle interplay of a multitude of textures, and the juxtapositioning of simple utilitarian and highly decorative design elements.
