This 576-page book is a text-heavy collection of scientific papers presented at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on the state of research at the nexus of art, microbiology, and conservation. The design aims for strong visual clarity, a high degree of legibility of text and graphics and an overall aesthetic quality appropriate for a museum publication. Wherever possible, tables and graphs were reconstructed to help create a more unified typographic and graphic presentation. A spot ink color, which is used to punctuate the text and enliven the charts, changes throughout the book according to section, indicating the conserved material being discussed.
