el hawa collection catalogue
Lara Assouad Khoury, Beirut, Lebanon, 2009
Description
Maison Rabih Kayrouz is a boutique couture atelier known for its great attention to detail and hand-sewn finishings, rich lush mixtures of fabric and texture, and a whimsical smile-in-the-mind attitude to couture.
The catalogue was designed as a small box of loose sheets reminiscent of photo-paper boxes. An intimate viewing of the collection allows the client to spread out the images and see more than one at a time. The mix of paper (to recall the subtly different textures of fabric in the collection) and printing techniques (letterpress for the box lid and introductory pages and offset for the photographs and windmill sheets) creates a rich visual and tactile experience similar to wearing a Maison Rabih Kayrouz garment.
Juror Notes
This promo for a boutique couture designer feels intimate, which I can only imagine reflects the attention to detail found in the design itself. The photographs are beautiful and cohesive. The subtle consideration in packaging, material and printing and the quiet, poetic voice of the typography make this a uniquely memorable piece.
