Ritmo ’04

Sidi Vanetti, Lugano, Switzerland, 2004

Description

The book was edited and financed by the Museo Cantonale d’Arte of Lugano and is the result of the cooperation between designer and artist. It is a tiny and intimate book that can reach a size of 103 inches. Whether book or work of art, this “object-book” is produced in a limited edition and is destined for collectors and art lovers.

Its zigzag shape was suggested by the photographed subject. Also, the type used for the cover (it was adapted from a Max Bill drawing) has a strong formal resemblance to the interlude of ropes impressed by the artist.

The book’s title, Ritmo ’04, refers to an important work of Hans Richter’s, Rithmus ’23, which is part of the permanent collection of the museum that commissioned this volume.

The object’s total size was determined by the paper’s size; in fact, the whole book has been printed in one color on a 100 x 70 cm sheet. This has allowed for low production costs.
