“C.E.O. USA” spread

The New York Times Magazine, New York, New York, 2001

Description

The New York Times Magazine art director, Janet Froelich, and designer Nancy Harris, asked me to do a portrait of George W. Bush in the style of a 19th-century paper cut-out silhouette. In fact, that’s just what I did: cut his likeness out of a piece of black paper.

Juror Notes

“Silhouettes are part of presidential heritage. This is purely graphical, and I like it. It doesn’t have a big idea, but there is something about his face.”
