Pyramids Gatefold

Pyramids Gatefold

National Geographic Magazine, Washington, District of Columbia, 1995

Description

Pyramids were the economic engines of ancient Egypt. To illustrate this perspective, the designers created a layered map that links pyramid sites with surrounding trade routes and mineral deposits. Above this image, in the same perspective, is a telescopic view of the Nile river valley as it might have appeared in ancient times. Above that, another telescopic view shows the pyramid-studded Giza plateau and harbor, which was the center of economic activity. Zooming in further, the viewer enters the interior of the largest built pyramid. Sidebar illustrations identify key elements of a pyramid complex and trace the evolution of pyramids over time.
