Reading Comics

Da Capo Press, Cambridge, Massachusetts, 2007

Description

Douglas Wolk’s Reading Comics examines the graphic novel’s place in the pantheon of modern art. The cover design is an attempt to embody the predominating aesthetic of the genre and its influences (retro-ironic, exemplified by the work of Chris Ware), without placing emphasis on any one artist or work.

Juror Notes

Meticulously rendered typography for a nonfiction work of comics criticism. It captures the range of voices within, from the booming to the anemic.
