Summitry Works: Words into Action

Summitry Works: Words into Action

StudioWorks, New York, New York, 1996

Description

This exhibition explores the possibilities of interactive learning, using computers with CD-ROMs, videos, projections, games, puzzles, and models to engage visitors of all ages. The interconnection of the global problems addressed by the World Summits is symbolized by the interlock-shaped tables themselves, decision making and planning. Everything from lighting to trafic flow is given this kind of consideration, creating an information architecture that allows for a non-linear storyline. Visitors are able to move freely throughout the exhibit and learn about how the United Nations conferences work, about the issues addressed, like women’s rights and the environment, and what role they as individuals can play in shaping the future. One contemplates the six tables apart and imagines the day when they will all come together.
