Sundance Channel Broadcast Identity Program

Young & Rubicam, New York, New York, 1996

Description

The Sundance Channel is the offspring of the Sundance film festival. Under the creative direction of Robert Redford, the channel is aimed at people seeking to experience independent films previously unexposed in the mainstream. Created within an extremely tight timeframe, the entire network identity program is based on the craft and low-budget nature of independent filmmaking. The design of the logo and program menu beds used techniques that deconstructed the film vernaculars of hot splicing, projection flutter, and film leaders into a language of color and abstraction. The spiritual and celebratory nature of Sundance was captured through the editing and music. The result is a gritty exploration of the spirit of independent films.
