Aftermath

Aftermath

Rolling Bones Letterpress, Seattle, Washington, 1996

Description

Aftermath provides a provocative glimpse into a woman’s life after her presumed disappearance. While the photos and story appear to describe her life, they instead conspire to deepen the mystery left behind. The reflective surface of the silver halftone image of the cover reveals a building only visible at certain angles. The sense of privacy found in historical documents and old photo albums were visual cues for the final design of the book. Pinhole photography, hand-set type, letterpress printing, and hand book binding all serve to reinforce the intimacy of the book. Aftermath is the first in the Lost History series, an exploration of people, places, and events, real or imagined.
