Edmund de Waal is one of the leading artists working with ceramics today. The book is divided into two parts. Essays and inspirational images are printed in mono onto a bright red uncoated stock that reflects the lacquered shelf. This sits in stark contrast to the section of installation images (photographed by Hélène Binet), which are reproduced in full color on silk paper. Inspired by de Waal’s approach of mixing modern ceramic techniques with traditional forms (and vice versa), we employed three different typefaces on a staggered grid, each with their own historical character.

This book really has an understated elegance to it. Red is used throughout the catalogue: red pages for the first half and red accents in the color photographs.
