The Sportswriter

The Sportswriter

Vintage Books, New York, New York, 1995

Description

Richard Ford’s audience seems to me to be predominantly male. The novel itself is written from the first-person point of view - that of the sportswriter himself. He is preoccupied with sex, if he’s not thinking about his ex-wife who is a golfer, then he is projecting his sexual fantasies on every girl he meets. I wanted to create a cover which would be very appealing to the male audience without being off-putting to the potential female reader. I think the covers sexy yet innocent quality along with the single, bold type treatment and color helps it to really stand out on the bookshelves.
