Landless John (Jean Sans Terre)

Description

Juror Notes

A folio volume, this exhibits the virtues that have made the reputation of the Grabhorns: generous scale, fine materials, free use of color, perfect workmanship, and lack of design inhibitions. The original French text is placed on left-hand pages in red, lining up against the center margin; the English translation is on right-hand pages in black, also aligned at the center so that there is a symmetrical balance. The binding achieves a striking effect with conventional elements: a black cloth backbone, paper label, and marbled paper sides.
