Here was a text of fearful complexity to fit into a book! It abounded not only in line figures but in tables with anything from two to twelve columns; there were all sorts of symbols and foreign-language characters sprinkled through it. An orderly articulation was achieved by using types of varying size for headings and subheadings; no obtrusive boldface was resorted to. The tables were set in sizes to accommodate the number of columns; where there were only a few columns, no rules were used as separators. In spite of variegated copy, and even tone and air of neatness were preserved. More style in title, chapter heads and binding would have made a superlative book.
