The design of FOG: Flowing in All Directions was predicated on creating a looking glass into the humanistic and creative process of a world-renowned architect and his staff. It was developed during the height of construction of Disney Hall prior to its inaugural opening. The book accompanied an exhibition on the current projects of Frank O. Gehry to appear at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. My approach to the design included capturing the climate of Frank Gehry’s office during this historical moment, satisfying MOCA’s need for an exhibition catalog, and creating a book that Circa Publishing would take pride in as dynamic and interesting.

The solutions included hiring the noted contemporary artist Daniel Joseph Martinez, whose photographic vision would capture a visceral slice of the organic and ever-changing mood of Frank Gehry’s studio. Depicting the 115 members of Gehry’s team alongside the seven partners illustrated a singular moment of the machine in action. My goal was to embrace the experimental and intuitive approach to Frank’s process of architectural design. This book was produced in collaboration with Gehry Partners.
