Description
The design challenge was to create a jacket for an unusual literary novel that reimagines the story of Noah and the Ark as told by his wife and other members of his family. The package needed to announce the arrival of a unique voice.
I wanted something conceptual like the book itself. By die-cutting the water so that the ark appeared to be floating, but actually having the ark and the animals printed on the case, I was able to create a two-part jacket that told the story of the flood and after. I chose an illustrator to do a contemporary spin on biblical engravings. He created the art in black and white from my sketches, and I then colorized it and added the textural background.
