Dish: International Design for the Home
Princeton Architectural Press, New York, New York, 2004
Description
The challenge was to have the cover of Dish reflect the experimental, provocative, creative and witty qualities of the work of the more than 40 women designers who appear in the book. My approach was to play with conventions in a manner similar to what the designers in the book have done, and to show the above-mentioned qualities in a playful way.
The embossed plate on the cover allowed me to put the title—Dish: International Design for the Home—on the back of the book and let the image do the job. The pubic hairs are the link to provocative, creative, witty. The shiny (washable) surface reflects the material of the shown object, as well as the glossiness of home and design magazines. The display font Nelio Round Link (used on the spine and back), with its mix of cross-stitch look and pixel aesthetics, links the handcrafted qualities of some of the works in the book with the mass-produced designs that involve high-end production technology.
