Singular Forms (Sometimes Repeated): Art from 1951 to the Present

Description
Singular Forms (Sometimes Repeated): Art from 1951 to the Present is a catalog produced for a show at the Guggenheim Museum that ran from March 5 to May 19, 2004. The show featured works of art that fell into the categories of minimalism, postminimalism and conceptual art. The catalog comprised six essays and a plates section. The essays examined minimalist/postminimalist/conceptual art showing its influences on art, architecture, dance, cinema, music and design. All the essays were printed on very lightweight paper, allowing content from the opposite side to show through. The plates were printed on a much thicker weight of the same paper. Typography was kept as minimal as possible; Swiss Bold was used in three sizes and on two hanglines—one for footnotes and captions, and one for all other text. The book's proportions are based on Rauschenberg's white painting, the first piece in the show chronologically. We chose to foil-stamp the book's covers with a solid silver. A list of all artists in the show knocks out of the foil on the back cover. The subtle mirroring effect from the silver foil allows the book to take on the color of its surroundings.
