Keeping a diary

Keeping a diary

Sagmeister, Inc., New York, New York, 2006

Description

We were invited to Singapore to produce another installment of the series “Things I have learned in my life so far.” This one-minute clip about the importance of keeping a diary was shot in one day in an abandoned historic Tang Dynasty park in Singapore.

Juror Notes

“The images in this piece are tranquil and surprising, making it hard to look away. The aesthetics borrow heavily from the language of travel advertisements, setting up an interesting tension: travel is all about getting away, whereas keeping a diary is all about looking at everyday life more carefully.”
“Showing a piece about something as private as diary-keeping in public spaces yields an interesting juxtaposition. The fact that the locations were carefully chosen historical sites around the audience’s home country of Singapore adds another layer of meaning. It really gets the viewer to reflect and introspect.”
