Design can sometimes rise above poor materials and mediocre printing. This book overcomes the handicaps of gray paper, hurried printing, and binding materials not of the best quality, by its lively uniform handling of a few typographic elements. The same strong typefaces are used consistently on binding, title-page, and in chapter headings, always lined up at the left margin to give a basic rhythm. The front-matter is handled excellently.
