Piracy
University of Chicago Press, Chicago, Illinois, 2009
Description
The book is primarily historical but has definite contemporary ramifications and connections. My early designs failed to straddle that line and were either too historical or too contemporary. Finally I realized that I could turn that problem into the basis of the design.
The ship dingbat is a Hoefler Text ornament. I was originally going to replace it with something custom drawn or more unique but couldn’t improve on such a perfect little galleon.
Juror Notes
Really nice solution for difficult subject matter. The visual perfectly conveys the idea of piracy in the modern age.
