Life turns man up and down
Alfred A. Knopf Publishers, New York, New York, 2001
Description
The challenge of the interior design of this book was to unify the author’s collection of African open-air market pamphlets as a coherent volume whilst maintaining their individual characteristics. In some cases, we reproduced the entire pamphlet and in other cases, we only used a couple of pages or a group of pages.
To capture the look and feeling of the pamphlets we used several “dirty” blank pages as backgrounds—to give an aged-newsprint effect—and limited ourselves to the three colors that were used on the covers of the originals (pink, blue and green). To meet budgetary constraints we could only print one color per signature, so the pagination had to be precise.
