MTV “Spring Break 2002” show packaging

HunterGatherer, Brooklyn, New York, 2002

Description

The job was to come up with show packaging (intros, bumpers, transitions, logos, overall look and feel) for MTV’s “Spring Break 2002” group of shows. This is a very simple idea of going inside the floral patterns of bathing suits and making those patterns come to life. Most of the graphics involved starting with tight shots of a floral and vine pattern as the plants literally start to grow. The camera follows the path of a specific plant as it winds its way across the frame. Other flowers are blooming and leaves are sprouting as the camera pulls back to reveal that it is a print on someone’s bathing suit. The packaging was a combination of still photography and conventional and 3-D animation. The flower pattern was an original design; to keep the plant growth looking smooth and natural, much of the animation was done frame by frame.
