The Russian Avant-Garde Book 1910–1934
Tsang Seymour Design Inc., New York, New York, 2001
Description
When we first began to work on this cover, we had just completed the page layouts and felt very strongly that these books should not be represented through an appropriation of the Constructivist language typically associated with the Russian avant-garde period. We ultimately returned to something that one of the curators stressed to us during an afternoon that we were invited to look through the books: that these were objects of use— intended to be handled, read, carried in the pocket and passed on to others. We have tried to capture this quality in a simple, bold, legible gesture that is representative of the medium through which the artists in this book chose to communicate.
