Observatory Mansions cover
Pylon Design Inc., Toronto, Ontario, 2000
Description
Personally illustrating the initial cover idea was the most challenging part of the Observatory Mansions book cover solution. If I hadn’t been able to layout my intention for the cover in the initial sketch, the idea would not have been a viable option. The result was a literal and graphic interpretation that captured and reflected the disturbing content of the story. The most influential component of the cover design was the chosen illustrator, Gary Clement. Gary brought the cover idea to life. Based on my original sketch the cover was to have some color. However, once Gary presented his final illustration it was apparent and mutually decided that color wasn’t needed. We were ecstatic that Random House gave us the go ahead to illustrate absolutely everything, including the author’s photo.
