The Misfit of the Family

The Misfit of the Family

Duke University Press, Durham, North Carolina, 2003

Description

This work of literary criticism examines the novels of Honoré de Balzac, paying particular attention to characters that defy social, sexual, and familial norms as they navigate the uncertain social landscape of post-Revolutionary France. I rejected the idea of using period artwork in favor of creating a collage that would act as a metaphor for the title—which I felt was uncommonly rich—as well as convey some sense of the intimacy and disquiet that it suggests.
