The Departure of Fruit & Vegetables from the Heart of Paris

The Departure of Fruit & Vegetables from the Heart of Paris

Wood Design, New York, New York, 1995

Description

This commemorative brochure celebrates the sculpture The Departure of Fruit and Vegetables from the Heart of Paris and introduces the English artist Raymond Mason to the United States. The brochure recreates the artist’s sketchbook and shows the evolution of the sculpture from pencil sketches and detailed watercolors to photographs to the finished piece. Just as the artist synthesized diverse images of the market into a sculpture, so does the brochure organize different elements in a logical and cohesive manner.

The color palette and printing techniques were selected to evoke the feeling of a well-used, personal sketchbook. Each page has a printed background that emulates the texture of the original sketchbook paper. Postcards inserted into the back of the sketchbook and a torn grocery list present more illustrations and serves as keepsakes, personal mementos of The Departure.
