Hollywood & Highland Kodak Theatre signage
Sussman/Prejza & Co., Inc., Culver City, California, 2001
Description
The Kodak Theatre is the new home for Hollywood’s most glamorous event, the Academy Awards. Our environmental design took its lead from the core concept of light and shadow as seen through the eye of a camera. Working within the confines of an extremely lean fabrication budget, our restraint in the use of color allowed us to use special materials in key locations. The elegance of the Academy Awards event inspired the use of internally illuminated glass with a graduated reverse sandblast, creating the cast shadow of the Opera Box identification signs, while Austrian crystal punctuates the “W” and “M” of the restroom signs. All in tribute to the celebrated jewels of the evening, most notably created by Harry Winston.
