Paper to Plants
Tinybop, Brooklyn, New York, 2014
Description
Plants is the second app in Tinybop’s Explorer’s Library, a series for curious kids ages four and older. We approached Kelli Anderson to make a promotional stop-motion video inspired by the app’s original illustrations by French artist Marie Caudry. We collaborated on a storyline that would bring the forest to life and reflect specific interactions and animations from the app before letting Anderson loose with paper and video.
Anderson and her partner, Daniel Dunnam, traced the shapes within Caudry’s illustrations, turned them into digital files, printed them on a desktop paper cutter, and built them into 3D figures. Anderson and Dunnam then shot the video frame-by-frame (over 6,000 photographs) within a custom lightbox set and edited the video together at 24-frames per second. They collaborated with Tinybop’s sound designer, Brian Jacobs, on the scoring.
