The brief for this book stated “This is the Grove mystery writer” and they wanted a unique package “look” that could be applied to all of his future novels. They didn’t want the standard indigo blue duotone close-up of a gun, women’s legs, or a dead body. I know because I did that for the first round and they killed it.
